4 Holiday Options for Staying in Whitby
With more and more holidaymakers and families choosing to stay in the UK for their main holiday of the year (increasingly known as the ‘staycation’), choosing the right option is paramount to ensure you enjoy a nice break during your time off.
Whitby is the ideal such destination. It’s calming harbour, scenic coastline, friendly locals and huge selection of places to stay makes it the perfect place to go away with your other half, friends or family without breaking the bank by going abroad.
1. Camping
There are numerous campsites near Whitby. One such option is Middlewood Farm campsite, just 10 minutes away in nearby Robin Hood’s Bay. Camping seems to be one of Britain’s favourite past times, which is very odd given Britain’s (generally) wet summers! If you choose to go camping in Whitby, it will be cheap, cheerful, and you’re sure to get somewhere not too far away from the town while still being able to enjoy the great outdoors and true alfresco living. On the other hand, camping can be a soul destroying experience, particularly if the weather is wet, windy or very cold. If you have been camping before and enjoyed it, take a look at the campsites near Whitby for your next holiday. If not, read on to find out what your other options are.
2. Hotels
Hotels – not the cheapest option, but probably the most luxurious. There are many hotels and bed and breakfasts in Whitby, with prices ranging from downright cheap to really quite pricey. If you’re heading away for a special occasion, perhaps a birthday or an anniversary, take a look at some of the hotels on offer in Whitby town centre. The location of some of them is superb and you’ll be afforded luxuries that don’t come with camping (such as a hot shower!). The George Hotel is a great option, and comes with Sky Sports HD and ESPN for football fanatics! One of the major downsides of hotels is that you often feel you have to eat and spend time in the hotel itself, rather than enjoying the many eateries and restaurants out and about in the town. If you want everything taken care of during your stay and don’t want to downgrade to camping or caravanning, go with a nice hotel in Whitby town centre.
3. Caravan
If you own a caravan, it would be silly to do anything other than use it! There are tens of caravan parks within a few miles of Whitby and many of them have reasonable rates, including Sandfield House Farm, a spacious caravan park with a good location just 5 minutes from the town centre. However, as more and more people are favouring the ‘staycation’ over going abroad, caravan parks are becoming more popular and you might find you can’t find a good spot nearby unless you book early. Static caravans are also available if you are interested in something slightly more substantial than your traditional holiday home on wheels. Caravans are a step up from camping but a notch down from a hotel stay and offer a great stop-gap between the two with great value for money on offer. For those who still aren’t sure whether this is the right option, read on!
4. Cottages
Whitby is home to hundreds of beautiful holiday cottages. Holiday cottages in Whitby is the perfect compromise between luxury and cost; you are getting the best of both worlds! Enjoy having a hot shower or relaxing bath after a day out, and you have the option of cooking something nice at home or splashing out on a nice dinner somewhere in the town.
